Medical Director
Dennis A. Sarti, MD, FACR,
a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh
School of Medicine, is Medical Director of Beverly
Radiology Medical Group, a 65+ person radiology group
serving Southern California. In the academic phase
of his career, he was Director of Diagnostic Ultrasound
and Body Imaging at UCLA School of Medicine, Department
of Radiology. Dr. Sarti has written three textbooks
and over fifty articles in the field of diagnostic
ultrasound. His seminal textbook, Diagnostic Ultrasound:
Text and Cases, has been used in medical schools around
the world to train residents in the field of ultrasound.
Dr. Sarti has been a consultant to several ultrasound companies, working with
their engineers to help develop new clinical uses in the field. Since the early
1970s, he has been one of the pioneers in ultrasound and has witnessed numerous
exciting advances.
Dr. Sarti states, "The development of focused ultrasound surgery (FUS) with MR
guidance is one of the most exciting developments I have ever seen in the field.
FUS destroys tissue without a surgical incision. This procedure controls an ultrasound
transducer positioned outside the body to noninvasively concentrate energy inside
the body in a precise location. MR guidance allows us to see exactly where we
are placing the focused ultrasound energy so that we only destroy the lesion.
This is a revolutionary marriage of two (MR and US) high tech modalities which
will change the future of medicine."
