Uterus Fibroids
Uterus fibroids can cause an immense amount of abdominal
pain, frequent urination, cramping, anemia, and heavy
menstrual bleeding. Because of the amount of discomfort
and other symptoms, fibroids result in a major amount
of time off from work and medical visits. Often, the
medical visits require expensive diagnostic procedures
before a definitive diagnosis is made.
Only recently has there been an option to deal with
uterus fibroids that does not include invasive surgery.
The option of SonoWave, or ExAblate™ 2000, is a non-invasive
alternative that is performed on an outpatient basis
with light sedation and general anesthesia. The procedure
generally lasts three to four hours, depending on the
number of fibroids. With just a short time in recovery
the sedation wears off and you're good to go!
Most women are able to return to their normal activities
within one to two days instead of the six weeks it takes
following a hysterectomy. The fibroid is destroyed with
the power of the ultrasound and is absorbed naturally
by the body. Over the next few weeks and months the fibroids
usually begin to soften and painful symptoms lessen or
disappear.
Beverly Tower Wilshire Advanced Imaging Center is one
of the locations where the ExAblate™ 2000 system is used.
