MR Guided Focused Ultrasound
MR guided Focused Ultrasound Surgery is the latest in
treating fibroid tumors. The traditional hysterectomy
requires general anesthesia, several days of hospital
confinement, and generally, a six-week recovery before
returning to usual activities. With the use of SonoWave
or ExAblate™ technology, the fibroids are destroyed without
the need for an incision.
The MR is used to identify the precise location and
size of the fibroid. Then, the ultrasound is used to
focus heat waves into the fibroid. This causes the tumor
to soften and eventually be reabsorbed by the body. The
results are noticed progressively over several weeks
as the pressure is relieved from large fibroids. This
process is much less traumatic to the body than having
general anesthesia, an invasive surgical procedure, and
an extended recovery time.
Beverly Tower Wilshire Advanced Imaging Center is one
of the few locations in the nation that uses MR guided
Focused Ultrasound. We have the trained professionals
and caring staff that will take you through the process.
All you have to do is lie on the patient table face down
while the scanner is positioned over the pelvic area.
A sedative will help you relax during the procedure.
If you have any questions about the MR guided Focused
Ultrasound Surgery, give us a call at 310-689-3101 and
speak to our Study Coordinator. You may send us your
inquiry via the email link on our website, if you prefer.
There is no need to suffer with the pain and discomfort
of fibroid tumors any longer. You can be back in your
routine in just a couple of days or so following the
procedure.
