Fibroid Tumor Treatments
Fibroid tumor treatments no longer require extensive
hospitalization and painful recovery time from a surgical
procedure. The latest advances in non-invasive techniques
have changed the options women have for pain relief and
heavy menstrual flow. In the past, many women have chosen
to just endure the pain and let the tumors grow rather
than losing a part of their bodies.
Now, it is possible to keep the uterus intact. Magnetic
resonance imaging is used in combination with ultrasound
to locate and destroy the fibrotic tissue inside the
uterus. General anesthesia is not required, so your recovery
time is much more rapid than having an invasive surgical
procedure. Only a sedative and pain medication is used
to help you relax during the procedure.
The entire process takes only three to four hours--depending
on the number of fibroids to be treated. Then, you will
stay a short time to allow the sedative to wear off.
Over a period of a few months, the ablated tissue will
be gradually absorbed by the body. You may be free of
the pain caused by large fibroid tumors pressing against
your back or other organs without the painful recovery
from major surgery.
Minimal risks are associated with the MR guided focused
ultrasound fibroid tumor treatment. If you are interested
in having this procedure, give our Study Coordinator
a call at 310-689-3101. Beverly Tower Wilshire Advanced
Imaging Center is one of the few locations in the nation
where this procedure is being offered.
