Fibroid Tumors

Fibroid tumors are documented to be present in as many as 50 percent of women. Estimations are that they are actually present in as many as 80 percent, but many women have no symptoms. Since fibroid tumors are estrogen dependent, they generally disappear when estrogen production decreases following menopause. For women with a history of fibroid tumors, they must understand the potential effects of hormone replacement therapy containing estrogen.

Fibroid tumors are categorized by location and type. Subserosal fibroids are on the outer wall of the uterus. They are generally unnoticed, unless they grow to the point of pressing against other internal body parts. The submucosal fibroids are underneath the lining of the uterus and interfere with menstruation. Other types include intramural, interligamentous, pendunculated, and parasitic.

Your doctor will be the one to determine if you have fibroid tumors, and which type they are. Diagnosis is made usually by an ultrasound examination. Once you know for sure that you indeed have fibroids, you should discuss with your doctor the options for treatment. If you are a candidate for MR guided Focused Ultrasound Treatment intervention, call the Beverly Tower Wilshire Advanced Imaging Center. One of our professionals will be glad to answer your questions.

Even though this procedure has been approved by the FDA, it is not yet covered by insurance. You can pay cash for the SonoWave fibroid treatment while we actively pursue insurance companies to cover this treatment. Our Study Coordinator will work with you to appeal to the insurance companies over and over again so there is a chance for you to be reimbursed and SonoWave can be a covered fibroid treatment. Call our Study coordinator at 310-689-3101 for more details.
