ExAblate™
SonoWave, widely known as ExAblate™ 2000 technology,
is the latest in the treatment of uterine fibroids. Approved
by the FDA in 2004, it is a great alternative to the
familiar hysterectomy or other invasive procedures. Many
women choose to suffer the symptoms rather than to go
through a procedure that requires hospitalization and
general anesthesia. This option allows women to spend
three to four hours at Beverly Tower Wilshire Advanced
Imaging Center for the procedure and return to work within
a couple of days.
ExAblate™ joins the imaging of magnetic resonance
with focused ultrasound energy to heat and destroy the
tumor cells within the uterus while maintaining the integrity
for the tissue surrounding the tumor. This is accomplished
by observing real time images based on temperature changes
inside the body to locate the tumor cells.
ExAblate™ Technology for Uterine Fibroid Relief
Focused ultrasound waves are beamed through the skin
to reach the specific targeted cells. The physician is
able to define the tumor and surrounding organs during
treatment. This allows for the parameters of treatment
to be adjusted to ensure effective and safe thermal ablation.
Once the targeted region is clearly identified, the ultrasound
energy destroys the tissue.
